Mr. Rakesh Malhotra is a B.E. (Electronics & Telecom) from Jadavpur University. With a career spanning over 26 years he is well respected in the industry for his contribution to the field of design, development & marketing of power conditioning & electronic products, telecom equipments & projects.
His entrepreneurial ambitions led him to start his own venture in 1988 with an initial investment of only USD 1000. Before starting his entrepreneurial journey in 1988, he held senior positions with Siemens, Nelco (a TATA Group company) and Mitsui.
Driven by the success he had with the initial ventures, he went on to develop 10 more companies over these years and is now a serial entrepreneur.
His hands on leadership style and people orientation make him a highly respected entrepreneur and have helped Luminous achieve an exceptional growth as a brand across India. Luminous is widely accepted as the company that pioneered the creation of power back up industry in India.
Mr. Malhotra’s various companies have business interests in Power Back Up, Telecom Infra , KPO(Knowledge Process Outsourcing ), Electric Vehicles , Renewable Energy & Mobile Handsets.
These companies employ a total of 4000 employees (including 500 overseas) and will achieve over $ 500 million in current fiscal year.
Mr. Malhotra regularly spends time with B school /engineering students across the country to share experiences and to develop interest in entrepreneurship among students. He serves on various industry and technology committees and regularly presents papers at conferences in the power space. He has many patent applications to his credit in the field of power electronics , storage & Renewable Energy.
Mr. Malhotra is a family person and likes travelling , playing cricket & loves music and business reading .
