As for states that fall in the special category, such as Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Lucknow, Uttarakhand and Sikkim, 70% of the cost of the installation will be paid by the Central Government according to the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy.

(It is to be noted that this subsidy scheme applies only for residential, social and institutional sectors and does not apply for commercial, industrial and public sector units.)

Apart from the installation cost, the government offers other benefits as well:

  • Customers who wish to install solar panels can secure priority sector loans up to the limit of INR 10,00,000 from national banks.

  • Customers can also get electricity generation incentives – INR 2 per unit of electricity produced.

  • Electricity produced in surplus can also be sold. A regulated cost per unit as set by the government shall be received.
