1. What is a Polycrystalline panel?

Polycrystalline solar panels, also known as multi-crystalline solar panels, consist of several crystals of silicon which are melted together to produce these panels. These cells are relatively economical and suitable for Indian solar conditions.

2. How is it different from a Monocrystalline panel?

A monocrystalline panel, unlike polycrystalline, is a single-crystalline solar panel, which you can easily recognize due to its external black color. It is made of cylindrical silicon that is cut into wafers and provides higher efficiency.Monocrystalline panels require a smaller installation area than other types, perform better under low light conditions and cost a little more than polycrystalline panels.

3. What is its output efficiency?

The output efficiency of polycrystalline-based solar panels is typically 13-16%. Since polycrystalline solar panels are made up of mixture of silicon crystals melted together, their efficiency is slightly less as compared to monocrystalline solar panels. Monocrystalline panels are more power-efficient than the polycrystalline ones despite having the same size dimensions. For instance, a polycrystalline solar panel of 325-watt has an efficiency rate of 17%, while its monocrystalline alternative of 370-watt having the same dimensions can have efficiency more than 18%.

4. Should you buy it?

There are many reasons why you must go solar, but improving our current environmental conditions and cutting energy costs tops the list. Solar panels might be expensive to install, but eventually, they will reduce your utility bills and help save money. Look at it as a long term investment rather than an expense as it protects you from unpredictable increases in electricity costs.
